Smartphone and tablet applications are starting to play a significant role in diabetes care, and Power 20 recently launched with that in mind.
“It’s no surprise that doctors and patients are looking to smartphones to help fight diabetes,” said Arshad Chowdhury, founder of Power 20. “Today, 46 percent of Americans own smartphones, and one in 10 Americans has diabetes. The number of diabetics will more than double in the next 25 years so tools like Power 20, which can help control blood sugar levels through guided exercises, are arriving just in time.”
Power 20’s first app is called Power 20 Full Body Workout. Developed by custom mobile app developer Metova, Power 20 Full Body Workout guides users through full-body, 20-minute workout that includes moves like tuck jumps, squats and planks. No equipment is necessary for Power 20’s high intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts that use plyometric exercises.
“The Power 20 app is a great guide with a simple and complete demonstration of the exercises and visual timers,” said David Lane, vice president of technology at Metova. “It has some fun features like letting users set their app to exercise on a yacht or beach. If you’re looking for a fast, effective workout from home, Power 20 is the perfect guide. Every workout is a different combination of movements and you’ll never do something for more than 90 seconds so you won’t get bored. The app adjusts to all fitness levels so you and your grandmother could both use it.”
Chowdhury, a technology entrepreneur with a passion for fitness, created Power 20 to teach his diabetic relatives how to control their blood-sugar levels through exercise. Doctors are starting to suggest applications to patients.
“We always tell patients to eat right and exercise, but Power 20 gives us a tool to share with our patients on an easy-to-implement exercise regiment,” says Dr. Michael Redlener, director of Prehospital Care at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City. “The more specific physicians can be with their patients about how to achieve cardiovascular health, the more likely patients with diabetes and risk of heart disease will be able to reach these goals. Power 20 is an excellent and adaptable option for patients.”
New users can register and download the Power 20 app for Android and iOS.
